So today I went for recertification for paratransit service. The whole time I waited for the lady to come, there was a film runnning in the offgice office with people who travel on buses and trains and don't use paratransit. I have a lack of direction and bad arthritis,. and the lady interviewing me was pretty unbelieving that I had problems that made it so I had to use paratransit. I keep reading articles about how much money paratransit is costing the government. My question is: Has paratransit been phased out in any part of the United States yet? I heard in Wisconsin they can only use paratransit for doctor appointments no social things. I don't know how reliable that is though and that is why I am asking about paratransit being phased out anywhere in the country.
It's still around in Waco where I live, but it's kind of hard to use which is the consensis Ive gotten from most people who use a similar service. Haven't heard of it being phased out anywhere though.
I am moving soon and the place I am moving to has Parat but it also has a bus line. I found that using a 50 percent discount for being blind, the bus sistem will be cheeper and much more relyable than parat.
I wouldn't think they could do away with paratransit. I certainly haven't heard of anything like that. There are too many people that could never ever use3 the bus no matter what.
i too have not heard of any state, or county nor city fazzing out this program. here in florida. clients of the program can utilize the para for any occasion. from going to the doctors, hospital, movies to the beach. my issue with our para is the price! its 7 dollars round trip! so if you have to see the doctor three times a week. every week. man, it ads up! i have diealyses three times a week. so it adds up. i am neither proud, nor ashemed for the following. i have stopped paying the 7 dollars!!! the driver will ask for the money. to which i respond," i dont have it!
" here, this is here now. they have to take you to the appoimen t!!!! especialy if it is dialyses! so for some months now i am not paying. fuck it! itaddsup! me not working, with a service. man, i need the money for dog food, and other things. so. good luck. remeber uyou can always go to city hall and bitch about your program!
I have never heard of it fazing out but I know of lots of counties that don't have it especially in the south.
I haven't heard of it phasing out either, and I think they are required to have paratransit wherever they have fixed route service by the ADA law.
I haven't heard of it being phased out either, but I have heard that sometimes they do impose some pretty ridiculous limitations on its use. I have a lady friend up in Canada (Ontario to be exact if memory serves me rightly), who would like to use their Wheel Trans program for her travel needs. Shhe has medical conditions (severe arthritis among them) that would make it unfeasible to use regular public transit, particularly if there were any lengthy walks involved. The problem is that, though she's still perfectly capable of doing most anything independently, Wheel Trans has been refusing to serve her unless she's accompanied by an escort.
wow i never heard of this type of thing as in my country we use taxis though people who have disabilities are on this program which is called the total mobility scheme where you get a book of vouchers and you get half price of your fare though it can be very costly especially if you go both ways and if used regularly but with me i only use it when i have to but other times i just walk to places and i can take a bus but i perfer to not to as i do get a bit nerves when on them because one time i was on one i had asked the driver to tell me when it was my stop but he forgot and drove right past it and when i had asked the driver if i was there and he said "can you walk from here"? i was like "no cause i don't know where i am going" he did not like this but reversed back the way we came and tried to do a unturn but that didn't work because the bus isn't like a car, lol, smiles.
That's happened to me a few times as well.
oh that isn't nice.
That happened to me many times before too, where the driver passed my stop and I had to ride the entire route around again, because the bus cannot turn and go back.
That would suck if you had a schedule to keep.
